The Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched a nationwide recall of Roseart® Magnetix® toys. Turns out a poor child has actually died when he swallowed the small magnets and they pinched and twisted his intestines. A few other children have been injured as well.
Well, we have a lot of those Magnetix toys, and yes, the little magnets have come out of a few of them. I, along with millions of others, I assume, had no idea that they would pose a hazard. The little magnets are small, but I would think they are too small to be a choking hazard. They are smaller than most pills I’ve seen. But, I guess they can cause damage to your insides.
Roseart is offering replacement toys for your Magnetix, but only if you have children under the age of 6. My kids are all 6 and up, so I suppose I’m not eligible to participate in the replacement program. So what should I do? Should we get rid of all of them? The kids really like playing with them. They really are fun. Should we keep them and take our chances? Our kids really aren’t big toy swallowers. But I would never forgive myself if something actually did happen, especially now that I know of the danger.
Well, I’ve got some time to think about it. At the moment, the kids’ playroom is such a disaster, I can’t find any of them anyway. Stay tuned.
