Yesterday, the first real winter storm wintered it’s way into Utah. It snowed. It was cold. It’s that time of year.
Last night as I lay in my bed trying to sleep, I was listening to a dog barking in the distance. I thought to myself that I really hate dogs barking all night while I’m trying to get to sleep. I also thought about how lucky we were that there are a relatively small number of dogs that live nearby our house. I lay there thinking what it would be like to be the owner of that dog and listen to it bark all night. I couldn’t do it. Far too annoying. And then like a train smashing into a car stalled on the tracks, it dawned on me. It’s like 20 degrees outside! The owners of this dog are torturing it by letting it freeze to death!
If you’re going to own a pet, please have the decency to be knowlegable enough to know how to take care of it. And, duh, when the temperature outside is sliding on down to the single digits, bring your pet inside.
I woke up in the middle of the night, and I didn’t hear the dog barking anymore. Either the owners finally grew a brain and brought the dog in, or he turned into a pup-sicle (I’m sorry.)
Yeah. It’s cold outside, alright. Current temperature as I write this is a balmy 9 degrees. I have to put a coat on just to look outside.

Yeah… I always liked the first couple of snows in Utah. Pretty, but not enough to make a mess. Much better than the blizzards which leave mountains of filthy sludge along the sides of the road for weeks afterward.
Here in NC, schools would close for a dusting like that! Pretty funny.
Here in Utah, that’s what’s referred to as a ‘dusting.’ If you look at the picture, you’ll notice some foot tracks in the snow going across my front lawn. I have no idea who made those!
It upsets me, too, when people leave their dogs outside in winter.
They seem to think that a dog’s fur coat can enable it to survive any temperature drop. I sure hope that dog is okay.
Nice snow picture. Wish we had some here in NC!
