I’ve just about had it with trying to take naps. Studies have shown that if you can get in a 15 – 20 min. nap everyday, you won’t be so tired and draggy. Well, as anyone out there who have kids know that with them around, napping is next to impossible. So there’s a huge blow against any napping plans I may ever have. But on occasion, I am actually home alone long enough to attempt the elusive nap. You’d think I’d be napping peacefully during these rare kid-free moments, right? Wrong! Studies have also shown that phone calls increas 3000% during naps. I could go days without the phone ringing…and when will it decide to ring? It’s always at that blissful moment I am finally drifting off into snuggly sleepland. Last Friday I was sick, and I stayed home from work. During the whole day, the phone rang twice. And both of those times were when I was laying down, on the couch, 2 seconds from full ZZZZ mode. Oh, these phone calls are never important. They are 95% telemarketers, and 5% wrong numbers. You can’t (or maybe you can) imagine how annoying this gets over time! But each time I have a free moment to myself, I selfishly try to lay down and try to snooze for a few. Like today. I come home early from work…because I could, and I realize that it is a nice, quiet, lazy afternoon. I lay down, and 5 min. into Phase I sleep…DING DONG!!! BAM! BAM! BAM!!! That’s right…just pushing the button wasn’t good enough…they had to simultaneously pound on the door. A friend? A new neighbor? My 3:00 appt. coming an hour early? NO! “Hi, we’re in the area giving free carpet cleaning…..blah blah blah….” It’s bad enough they infiltrate your inbox, go commando on your phone, plague the TV, radio, and internet. No, they have to come directly to your front door. I know this is backwards thinking as door-to-door solicitation came way before these other technological advances. But in light of the new ways one can shove adverts in your face, I think now’s the time to simply stay away from my porch.
And for crying out loud… can’t I just sleep for 15 minutes!?!
